1 John 3:8 – He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

Now if you just read that verse without understanding what it is saying it may frighten you because we have all committed sin. But, the real meaning of the word “commit” in this scripture is referring to someone who has made a commitment to sin.

If you are a born again, child of God, you are not of the devil and you cannot make a commitment to sin. Why? Because the Holy Spirit will convict you when you get out of line.

When you are committed to something, you are dedicated to stay in that situation or relationship until the end. People of God should have a commitment to God and righteousness, not to sin. When you commit to the right things, you won’t have to ever worry about making a commitment to sin.

Here are some things you should be committed to: the Word of God, the Holy Spirit, your spouse, your parents, your children, and your church. When you are committed in all those capacities, Satan will not be able to get you to commit to sin.

Committed people are the ones who are going to succeed! Today, I want you to evaluate your commitments and make sure, above all else, your greatest commitment is to God, your Father!
