Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. 4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word. 5 And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch: 6 Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them. 7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith. 8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people. 9 Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen. 10 And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake. – Acts 6:3-10

I never thought about how the early church prayed, until now. Once they were filled with the Holy Ghost in Acts 2, it is safe to say that the type of prayer that the early church gave themselves continuously to, was praying in the Spirit. Thus, we see why their ministry took off the way that it did.

Praying in the Spirit had a great emphasis on what happened in the early church and it still does in today’s church. Both, the believer and the church’s power have been diluted by not contending for the faith in the realm of the Spirit by praying in the Holy Ghost.

Many things have been hindered, cut out, and held back in believer’s lives because they have not understood or taken advantage of God’s original plan of filling you with the Holy Spirit to activate the Holy Spirit in your life.

If you want to walk and do things in the Spirit, the Holy Ghost must be activated in your life. To do and see wonders, you must be in partnership and agreement with the Holy Spirit, For He knows more than you do.

You see, when you pray, you are not praying to an equal. You are praying in the Spirit and making contact with the one who was there when you were created — to the one who knows all about you and what you are dealing with.

You need to access this power. Especially, if you are a minister of God’s Word. And the Bible says we are all able ministers (2. Cor. 3:6). So give yourselves continuously to prayer (in the Holy Ghost) and the ministering of the Word.
