Luke 14:26-27 – If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. 27 And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.
Jesus expects us to be disciples; not just believers or members. To walk in the authority bestowed upon us from the Father, we are to be fully sold out for Christ. That is what a disciple is – someone who has put God in first place in their lives.
Discipleship is not a position you can attach to yourself. It is a position that you grow into spiritually by discipline and denying yourself (Luke 9:23).
In order to be a disciple you have to love God more than you love yourself. You have to be 100% dead, with your ego (edging God out) completely and totally out of the way.
You see, many times we only want to give God a portion of our lives. Telling him, “Lord, you can have 50% of my life, but I’ll run the other 50%” That is being lukewarm, and remember God said He’ll spit you out if you are lukewarm.
Could it be that God has not shown you what He has wanted to show you because He cannot trust you all the way?
You have to learn to hate anything that is not exalting God as first place in your life.
God should be FIRST; everything else below Him. Everything: your job, your family, your position, etc. Whatever you put before God means that you love it more than you love Him.
From this day forward, with no exceptions, make the adjustment to place things in their proper place. If God has not been first, repent and then re-arrange what needs to be re-arranged.
Discipleship is the only way that you will be able to walk fully into what God has prepared for you. It is the only way that you can exercise authority and dominion in this earth’s realm over everything you deal with!
