One of the characteristics of the prosperous is having the fear of God. Not being deathly afraid of God or scared for 2 Timothy 1:7 tells us that God has not given us the spirit of fear. The fear I’m talking about is a godly fear or reverence for God.

God inspired King Solomon to write, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge…” (Proverbs 1:7). In other words, you can’t even know God if you won’t respect of reverence Him as God!

To fear God is to deeply reverence and respect Him. People who are “loose” in the way they live don’t have any fear of God in their hearts. The unsaved don’t know any better; they don’t know God as God. Some Baby Christians are ignorant and don’t know any better, either. Yet His Spirit indwells them, and God requires that every believer show a certain respect toward Him and His Word.

People who disrespect God don’t truly know Him. They may be trying to get a ticket to Heaven, but they don’t really want to know Him. If they did, they would humble themselves and show godly fear and respect toward Him.

Godly fear always produces divine results. Sometimes people aren’t getting the results they want to see from the Word because they’re behaving irreverently before Him, or because they are holding on to attitudes that are irreverent and disrespectful.

If you are going to walk in God-kind of prosperity, you need to holding on to your fear of the Lord.
