Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them. Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper withersoever thou goest. This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest. – Joshua 1:6-9

The Lord had promised Joshua and all of Israel a certain inheritance – the promised land. They hadn’t quite reached the manifestation of this inheritance yet, but the Lord wanted them to know that all they had to do was be strong and of a good courage. Then, in the 8th verse he gave them some instruction on how they could remain strong and of a good courage.

I want you to notice four words from that 8th verse: Mouth, Meditation, Mayest, and Maketh.

Mouth –  keep saying it. When the pressure is on, keep saying the same thing God is saying. When things look bad, keep saying it. Even when things look good, keep saying it.

Meditate – digest God’s Word. How often? Day and night. Why? That thou Mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein. What happens then? For thou shall Make thy way prosperous. It just doesn’t come. You have to make it. Then you will have good success.

What’s the difference between success and good success? Good success comes from God. It can’t be taken from you. Good courage and good success must walk together.

Good courage and good success are your lot. I don’t care what it looks like or what you’re up against. Don’t let any situation stop you from being strong and of good courage. God says, You and I can handle anything!
