1 Timothy 6:10 says the love of money is the root of all evil.

It doesn’t say money is evil. What’s evil is not having money. That’s when you can get caught up in going after it the most.

The verse goes on to say while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith. In other words, by going after it, they’ve messed up their financial faith.

By trusting in their academic abilities over trusting God, for instance, they have erred from the faith. This is why it says they’ve pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
