Galatians 3:1-5 – O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you? 2 This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? 3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh? 4 Have ye suffered so many things in vain? if it be yet in vain. 5 He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
Paul called the Galatians “foolish” and asked if someone had bewitched them because after all they had been taught about Jesus Christ and the Cross; they were trying to go some other way. To some extent, the modern day has also been bewitched in the same manner.
When we leave the Cross out, we leave room for satan to get a hold of us. But our power cannot come from any other source. The Cross is the only source of genuine, supernatural power.
So what is the Cross? Well, I’ll tell you what it is not. It is not the emblem hanging around your neck or the wooden one you have placed somewhere in your house. The physical cross, in and of itself, does not have any power.
The actual, physical, wooden beam is actually a place of curse. Why? Because scripture says, Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:(Gal. 3:13)
The wooden beam was just the vehicle that God used to carry out His redemptive plan. When I say the Cross is the only source of genuine, supernatural power – I am talking about the sacrifice that Jesus offered on our behalf at the Cross with all the consequences and benefits.
When you glory in the Cross, you should glory in the fact that Christ bore all your sicknesses – that Christ bore your poverty so that you may be prosperous—that Christ took your rejection so that you may be accepted. That is the Cross! It is not the wooden beam.
