And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, 2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. 3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism. 4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. 5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. – Acts 19:1-5
A dilemma that many are still dealing with today can be found in this scripture passage. We see that Paul told these disciples that they needed to be baptized in the name of Jesus. But, what is commonly overlooked is what happened in the 5th verse. If all the disciples needed was to be baptized in the name of Jesus, why did Paul lay hands on them for the Holy Ghost to come upon them?
If you are a born-again believer who has not been filled with the evidence of speaking in tongues, you are missing out on some of the most powerful privileges and benefits of being a child of God.
You see praying in tongues is what gives you that extra power to be able to walk into the supernatural. It is the evidence of you being baptized with the Holy Spirit. It is the secret to living a supernatural life. It is your personal, devotional, and private language.
Praying in tongues is a supernatural language that stirs up the supernatural on the inside of you. When you pray in the Holy Ghost, it’s a divine conversation: you are praying but God is giving you the words to pray, so that He can legally do what He has always wanted to do for you. It is actually God talking to Himself, through you. Do you realize how powerful that is?
If you have not been baptized with the Holy Spirit, you need this power in your life? If you are baptized with the Holy Spirit, but don’t exercise it, develop the habit to pray more often. Start with ten minutes a day. It will dramatically change your life, for the better!
