For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. – 1 Timothy 6:10

I want to continue to eradicate and kill religious mindsets that have Christians thinking that money is evil! In the verse above, the only thing that determines whether or not Timothy was talking to you is you.

Always know who God is talking to when you’re reading scripture. He was not saying that having money is evil because even later on in this same chapter, Timothy gives a charge to those who are rich (see vs. 17).

If you’re rooted and grounded in Christ, it is impossible to love money. When you love Jesus and you love His church and you love the kingdom and your brothers and sisters – you will not love money! The Bible tells us that the love of God has been shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit.  (Rom 5:5)

Simply put: If you don’t love God, you’re going to love money.

1 Timothy 6:10 should be a self-check verse. If you know that you are living a life completely yielded to God, it is not talking to you. God is the only one who can truly see our hearts and He will give to us according to our level of love for Him and the level we truly understand why He wants us to be rich.

The love of money is the root of all evil. But, when you love the God who gives you the money instead of the money itself – your money will be covered with love.

Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; – 1 Timothy 6:17
